Model Kate Upton in American Vogue, November 2012
Model Kate Upton of IMG Models is making waves in the modeling world. Upton is one of the rare models to transition from swimsuit to high-fashion modeling with editorials in Vogue Espana, Vogue Italia, and, even the seemingly curve-fearful, American Vogue. In this month's November 2012 issue of American Vogue, Upton appears in an editorial called "The New Girl", photographed by Steven Meisel.
Kate Upton, who was thrown into the media spotlight after being called "fat", "vulgar", and "lardy", is in the no-mans land of modeling at a size 4. Upton is considered too large and curvy for the typical straight size model boards but is clearly too small for plus modeling, which typically starts at size 8 (please note, we said "plus modeling" not "plus-size"). At Truth and Fashion, we truly believe there should be more diversity in modeling in numerous ways and we are happy to see Upton paving a way for models who have previously been told they could not model at their natural size of 4 or 6. While there is much controversy around her, we are happy to see her creating a path for more models to work at their healthy weight and size.
We want to hear your thoughts... what do you think of having more models Kate Upton's size?
